manual to play frikik

INTRODUCTION

Frikik is a free game for Windows PCs. It was created in Multimedia Fusion. It consists in making free kicks, the player's goal is to score the prettiest goal (or alternatively to shoot the prettiest shot). The name Frikik is roughly the Polish pronunciation of the English expression Free Kick , which means free kick.

MENU

After starting the game, the main menu will appear:

boot menu

Clicking on one of the options will perform the desired action:

CONTROL

The game is played entirely with the mouse. After starting the game, you should see something like this:

taking a shot

The position of the ball is random each time. For a few seconds, you will see a number on the screen showing the distance from the goal (in the example above, the ball is 39 meters from the goal).

Firing a shot can generally be divided into three steps:

choice of strength and direction

You control the mouse with the movement of the wheel. It should be green, but if it is different and it's red, you won't be able to proceed to the next step. Note that the value of the force meter depends on the distance of the circle from the position of the ball. The bigger it is, the greater the force and vice versa.

The position of the green circle also determines the direction of the shot. With zero spin of the ball (you will set it in the next step), the ball will fly exactly in the direction of the green circle. Note that it is easiest to choose the exact direction with a light shot (ball close to the goal), but then the shot will have little power. Likewise, high-force shots can be imprecise as it is more difficult to measure the direction of the shot. Let's try to take a shot with a moderate force in the left corner of the goal:

strike - choice of strength

If you are satisfied with the selected settings, left-click to go to the next step.

selection of undercut and curl

In the previous step, we chose the power and direction of impact. The force only determines the velocity at which the ball will travel parallel to the pitch. In this step, we will define its undercut and spin, which allow you to score really impressive goals.

The selection of both parameters is controlled by the movement of the mouse. Movements in the horizontal plane increase or decrease the value of the green undercut counter, while moving in the horizontal plane changes the white undercut counter.

NOTE: if you positioned the circle close to the top of the screen in the previous step, the undercut counter will be inverted to allow for a fine check (the counter does not disappear behind the screen)

The more white the horizontal counter is to the left, the more the shot will go to the left from the original direction. Similarly, the more the counter is to the right, the more the shot will go to the right.

The undercut counter value determines where the ball will be kicked. The bigger it is, the lower the ball will be kicked, which will increase the flight parabola. Setting the timer to zero means that a ground shot will be fired.

NOTE: If you want to change direction or force at this point, press the ESCAPE key.

If you are satisfied with the selected parameters of the shot, press the left mouse button. The shot will be fired

NOTE: Before taking a shot, you can toss the ball and make a hit from the so-called volley. The ball is tossed with the right mouse button. The height at which it will be thrown is determined by the value of the undercut counter selected at the time of the throwing. You can toss the ball as many times as you like, and you can also wait for it to hit the ground and stop. To shoot, all you need to do is press the left mouse button. Note that air strikes should not be made on high heels with high force

Let's take an example shot by setting a zero spin and a slight undercut:

selection of underlining and undercutting

observation of the flight parabola

The shot was fired. From time to time, the flying ball will leave a trail behind it, which makes it easier to assess the quality and accuracy of the shot. When the ball stops, the shot score will be displayed. It depends on, among others:

The following grades can be adopted:

After the shot is taken, three buttons will appear at the top of the screen: NEXT , REPEAT and END

To take the next shot, select NEXT. To view a replay of the shot fired before the moment of the shot, click on REPLAY. Clicking on END takes you to the start menu.

NOTE: For more information on playing and saving replays, see the next section

Let's go back to our shot and see what came out of it:

the result of the shot

Well, it was a bit short and the ball landed on the post. Having learned from this experience, we can try another, hopefully effective shot :)

REPLAYS

saving and watching repetitions

Did you get your life shot? Or maybe you just want to see how close you were to the previous hit? Nothing simpler - the game always provides the so-called "instant replay" of the last hit. After shooting in the previous situation, instead of NEXT, select REPEAT from the menu at the top:

repeat

We will be transferred to the replay player. At the top of the screen there is the END button, which allows you to take another shot (or exit to the menu, if you have played a replay from the menu level - see the next section). At the bottom of the screen, in the lower right corner, there is also information about the distance from the goal and the number of points received by a given shot.

Tuesday - data

In the lower left corner is the most important element of the Replay Player - the set of playback controls. Here is their description of how they work:

buttonRewind
Hold to rewind (rewind rate 1x)
buttonPause
Press once to stop playback
buttonPlay
Press once to start replay playback. Note that playback is stopped by default
buttonRewind one frame
Press to skip one frame backward. Hold to reverse 0.5x
buttonAdvance a frame
Press to skip one frame forward. Hold to play at 0.5x speed
buttonRecord
Press to save the replay to a file. The default save directory is / replays.

playing saved replays

You can watch a replay saved to a file at any time later, you can also send it to a friend who will watch it on his computer. To play a replay, select the REPLAY item from the main menu. A window similar to the following will appear:

replays

Select a replay file and press OPEN. The replay player will be launched, the operation of which is the same as in the above point

TOURNAMENT

The game allows you to play a free kick tournament in which 2 to 4 players can participate in the "hot seats" system. After clicking on the appropriate option in the main menu, the following screen will appear:

tournament

The first thing to do is select the number of players by clicking on the appropriate number. Then, enter their names in the fields below - they will facilitate identification during the tournament. If any field is left blank, it will be highlighted in red and the tournament will not be allowed to start until it is completed.

The rules of the multiplayer game are the same as in the single player mode, the only difference that is visible at first glance is a small table in the lower right corner of the screen, which may look like the picture below:

turniejtabela

The first column shows the names of the players. A white square next to the name means that the given player now has a turn. The second column shows the number of points in the classification, the last column shows the number of points for the shot fired in this round. Each player fires one shot each turn. Then, the one who obtained the most points (or several people, if they had identical results) receives one point for the classification.

Look at the picture above - there are 4 people: Marcin, Piotrek, Tomek and Michał. Behind them, one round of shots (it was won by Tomek, who has one point on his account), in the current round it is Michał who shoots. To score a point, he has to score so that he gets more than Piotrek has - that is 439 points. At the end of this queue, the person with the best score will be awarded a point for the overall standings and the counters on the right will be reset to zero (due to the new queue).

NOTE: Shots fired during the tournament leg count towards the stats

NOTE: During the tournament, shot replays can be played in the same way as in the single player mode. More details in the previous section

There is no predefined queue limit. The tournament can be interrupted at any time and the winner will be the person who had the most points at the time of the stop (or more people if they had the same results). The tournament is stopped by clicking on the END button after the shot has been taken, and the appropriate message will appear about the winner. To exit to the menu, you need to press any key or mouse button.

ADVICE

The following section contains some tips for effective shooting. Also check out the default replays that come with the game - they can help you learn Frikik's rules.

Authors

I came up with the idea of making Frikik in mid-March 2006 - more precisely, at the beginning it was only supposed to be a test whether it is possible to realistically simulate the psudoisometric movement of the ball in a click program like MMF. As it turned out better than I expected, I decided to share my work on the forum, first on Nukeboard and then on Clickportal. I leave you to judge if it would be better if the game never left my disc. Thanks to everyone for the support, words of appreciation, criticism and tips.

PS The original name for the game was ... Fakbol :) no comments
